When to Reorder Jewellery Stock: A Guide for Small Resellers

Reordering jewellery is easier when you know which designs are selling and how much usable stock remains. A simple weekly review can help you decide what to buy again, what to test in smaller quantities and what needs a better listing. Start with a stock sheet that uses the same SKU references as your orders.

Track each design and colour separately

Record the SKU, colour, opening quantity, receipts, sales and remaining stock. Keep damaged items and customer-reserved items separate from stock that is available to sell. If you sell through both a shop and Instagram, update one shared record so the same piece is not promised twice.

Record returns only after checking whether the item can be sold again. A returned quantity does not automatically become available inventory.

Compare sales over a consistent period

Choose a review period, such as the last four weeks, and compare units sold by SKU. Note any time the product was out of stock: low sales during that period may reflect missing availability rather than weak demand. Also note whether a promotion or event temporarily increased sales.

Keep inquiries and paid orders in separate columns. Questions and video views can suggest interest, but confirmed sales are more useful when planning how much money to commit to a reorder.

Allow time for replenishment

Think about the complete time between placing a supplier order and having checked stock ready for your customers. This includes order processing, transit and your own receiving work. Use the supplier's current information and your actual experience to estimate this period.

Illustrative example: Suppose one earring design sells four pairs per week and replenishment usually takes two weeks. You would expect to need eight pairs during that period. If you choose a four-pair buffer, your review point would be twelve usable pairs, before accounting for stock already on order. These are example quantities, not a sales forecast or Shuma delivery promise.

Group your next buying decisions

  • Reorder: Designs with consistent sales and acceptable returns or complaints.
  • Test: New designs or colours for which you have limited evidence.
  • Review: Slow items that may need clearer photos, corrected information or a different presentation.

For slow stock, check the listing and customer feedback before reducing the price. Buying more similar products can tie up budget without resolving the original issue.

Check availability before advertising a restock

Confirm the SKU, colour, pack contents and current supplier availability. A similar photograph may represent a different size or finish. If the original design is unavailable, compare alternatives carefully and show customers the actual replacement rather than presenting it as identical.
