Jewellery Product Photography: A Simple Guide for Resellers

Good jewellery photos help a buyer understand the product before placing an order. A beautiful background can attract attention, but the listing also needs to show size, colour and the exact items included. Use this simple photography routine when preparing your wholesale purchases for your own shop or online catalogue.

Set up a consistent shooting space

Choose a plain background that separates the jewellery from its surroundings. Position the product beside a window with diffused light, or use a soft light source. Avoid mixing strongly different light colours, which can make a gold-tone finish or coloured stone look different between photographs. Clean the camera lens and keep the phone steady.

Photograph a small group of products in the same session and compare the results with the actual pieces. Adjust the setup if bright reflections hide important details. Keep enough space around the item so the whole design remains visible when an image is cropped.

Use a five-view product checklist

  1. Full product: Show the complete piece or pair clearly.
  2. Detail: Capture the central design, texture or decorative elements.
  3. Back or fastening: Show the clasp, post, closure or adjustment mechanism.
  4. Scale: Include a measured size image or a natural worn view.
  5. Pack contents: Photograph everything the buyer receives in one order.

For earrings, include the length and show both pieces when selling a pair. For necklaces, distinguish pendant size from chain length. For rings and bracelets, confirm measurements and explain adjustment only when the individual design allows it.

Keep styled images faithful to the product

A hand pose, model image or display card can help customers imagine the jewellery in use. Keep the original shape, proportions, colour, chain count and decorative details intact. Pair styled photographs with a clear actual-product image. Avoid edits that add stones, remove visible components or change the apparent size.

Match the photos to the listing

Label your image files with the SKU and colour so you can find the correct version later. Check that the selected variant, price unit and pack quantity match the photographs. If you use an assortment photo, explain whether the customer receives the entire assortment or chooses one option.

Write a useful image description for accessibility, such as the product type, colour and visible design. Keep descriptions natural rather than repeating a long list of search keywords.

Make a short video from the same setup

Record a steady front view, a slow turn and a close-up of the fastening. Demonstrate any removable or adjustable part accurately. When using supplier images or videos, confirm permission and use files that match the stock you actually received.
